Eureka! The Bone Marrow Burger Comes to Town From locally owned P. Terry’s and Hopdoddy’s to the recent out-of-state import of Shake Shack, there’s no shortage of burger restaurants in Austin. On June 25th Eureka!, a California-based restaurant chain, opened on 6th street. The restaurant prides itself on handmade, locally sourced ingredients including hormone and antibiotic free vegetarian-fed beef. While a large portion of the menu is dedicated to burgers, a diverse menu also offers starters, salads, tacos and signature entrees with choices to satisfy a crowd.
One of Eureka’s signature dishes is the Bone Marrow Burger. During a recent preview I sampled their signature burger made with 100% ground chuck. The burger is topped with umami-packed ingredients like porcini-bone marrow butter, charbroiled onion, mustard aioli and roasted tomatoes and delivers on delicious flavor. It was served a perfect medium, as I had requested, and it was so moist that meat juice oozed onto my hands and the plate as I ate it. At $16.50 it is one of the most expensive burgers in town and may be too tall a price to pay for some. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

The Halal Corner Opens in Mueller The Halal Corner will open in the Mueller Neighborhood this week. The owner told me the official opening day will be either July 2nd or 3rd. It will take over the space previously occupied by Boneheads which closed it’s doors after being open for less than a year. The Halal Corner is owned and operated by the same family that owns the Kismet Cafe and will serve a very similar menu. The menu is affordable with the most expensive platter priced at $9.99 and sandwiches around $5.00. Both Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foods are represented on the menu. Local businesses have had difficulty surviving in Mueller due high lease rates, so go support your local businesses and give the restaurant a try.
